About Micro Boom Academy
When I was four years old, I knew I wanted to play the drums. My parents took me in for a lesson, but Barry, my teacher, told me I was too small, and to come back when I could reach the pedals. (Playing drums is a little like driving; you have to be able to reach the pedals and see where you’re going!)
When I was six, I went back to Barry, and I’ve been playing drums ever since. When I was 11, starting performing in Craig Thatcher’s Boom Chaka, a street drumming group that played all around town at schools, sporting and theatrical events, and even a TedX Talk! Craig and his family left on a year-long trip in 2018, so, at the request of some of the groups’ parents, I formed Micro Boom Academy, to keep the boom spirit alive, and give back to a musical pursuit that’s given me so much.
Micro Boom Academy is run by me in small groups, where participants hone their drumming skills, learn collaborative pieces, build confidence and have a great time playing the drums!
